Lightning
All Lightning API endpoints are currently in a preview release and may change at any time without notice.
AccuWeather's Lightning API provides detailed information about lightning strikes from around the world. Each lightning strike record includes precise location coordinates, date and time, strike type, and peak current.
Current data
Search for lightning strikes by geographical coordinates. Define a point and a radius around it or define the northwest and southeast corners of a rectangle to return data for all lightning strikes in an area. All data is returned in GeoJSON format.
Historical data
Search for lightning strikes that occurred more than 120 minutes (two hours) prior to searching. Access one 24-hour period of historical records at a time. Historical data is available back to January 1st, 2006. All data is returned in JSON format with additional GeoJSON elements. See the response parameter table for more information.
